We Know Email Series: Kyle Williams

What’s your role here at Return Path?
My job is kind of a hard thing to describe because it varies slightly wherever you are. IT has evolved to the point where my team is no longer just IT, which is reflected in our titles. I’m a Technical Specialist, which pretty much means if it’s technology related, then I work on it. My job is to help the company work, and also to work better. That could be something as simple as automating the new hire process or implementing new technology to use company-wide.

What initially brought you here?
To be 100% honest, I woke up one morning and thought—I want to live and work in NYC. I sought out best places to work and Return Path came up. I found a role that was pretty much what I was doing at my nonprofit, and the years of experience we’re pretty much what I had, so I applied and the rest is history.

Tell me something I don’t know about information technology.
Although often overlooked, the IT team is usually the first and last interaction that people have with the company. We welcome you with open arms on your first day and give you a hug goodbye when you decide to move on. I think that’s really important, to have a team that’s there for you from the beginning up until the very end.

What energizes you about your role at Return Path?
I love to help people, that’s what it’s all about. I also love the fact that no two days here are the same. I’m thrown a new challenge every day.

What problem is the most fun to solve?
Scalability and automation are some of my favorite things, when my team wants to implement something company wide we start with our group and then figure out how we can do things better. How we can do things faster, and most importantly how can we do things with little to no user interruption? We love seamless experiences.   

What about you might come as a surprise to those that work closely with you?
Running is one of my favorite hobbies, and I also love to eat. I literally run to eat.

What’s the most memorable email campaign you’ve seen lately?
I would have to say any of the Buzzfeed emails that land in my inbox. Some of the subject lines are just so darn clever that I want to click and read whatever it is.

What emails can we find in your personal inbox?
I love to travel, and I’m known for last minute vacations (ask my team about Hawaii!). I have about 30 airfare price alerts set at any given time. Also, if it’s racing related, like NASCAR, F1, Indy car, etc, I’ll probably get an email about it.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Return Path?
I love to visit our offices across the globe. Last month I was in the Brazil office for a week and a half. It’s so fun to see how different yet how the same we all are, working towards one common goal. We are all just one big extended family. I can feel the love in every office that I visit. The people here would have to be my favorite thing about Return Path.
