Why are My Emails Landing in Spam? Here's Your Chance for a 1:1 with a Return Path Email Expert

On February 19th – 21st, I'm conducting live, one-on-one coaching clinics on email deliverability at Marketing Sherpa’s Email Summit in Las Vegas.  Here’s your chance to get the answers to the questions you were afraid to ask!  What’s an email deliverability coaching clinic?  In layman's terms, I'll be coaching marketers on the importance of reaching the inbox, avoiding the spam folder, and how to find out why your emails aren't reaching your subscribers.  Space is extremely limited so sign up now.  In the meantime, I would like you to ask yourselves a few questions so we can make the most of our time together.

1. How do you determine if your emails are reaching the inbox, spam folder or being blocked?

If you answered "I send tests to my Gmail and Yahoo accounts" then you're missing the ability to gauge true inbox placement rates with a higher sample of addresses, automated collecting and monitoring of issues, and more importantly, you're missing out on 50% – 80% of your list. If you answered "I review my delivered and bounced files from my ESP" then you're not getting the data you need to know if it landed in the spam folder or not.  Let’s chat about how you can measure and monitor your inbox placement rate.

2. How are your permission practices affecting your email performance?

Permission practices can be a major driver for why your emails are being delivered to the spam folder, or worse – blocked all together. In our one-on-one clinic, we can evaluate if and how your permission practices could be causing inbox placement issues, like high subscriber complaints, unknown user bounces, and spam traps. If all of that is greek to you, don’t worry. I’ll explain that in detail, so the next time you speak to your boss, you’ll sound like an expert.

3. Is your email infrastructure up to par?

If you answered "I have no idea" then you're not alone.  You're an email marketer, not a systems engineer.  Even if you were, knowing all the standards and best practices on how to configure your email servers, domains, authentication, IP segmentation and DNS can be daunting.  Plus, you have your day job to do and that doesn't including worrying about this. That's my job, and one of the things we can cover in our coaching clinic.

4. What is the rate at which your subscribers mark your email as spam?  How are you analyzing this subscriber complaint data?

The number one reason your email ends up in the spam folder is because people are complaining about it.  The mailbox providers, like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo, monitor your complaint rate and if it exceeds their thresholds you are going to be filtered into the spam folder or ultimately blocked.  Complaint data is a gift, not a problem, and can help you figure out who is complaining and why.  We can discuss how you can analyze your complaint data to minimize deliverability issues and uncover opportunities to improve your email marketing program during our one-on-one session.

Sign up today for a one-on-one coaching clinic with me and let’s get to the root cause of what is causing your inbox placement issues. Hope to see you Vegas!
