Return Path Has Interns! Meet Engineering Intern Caleb Hsu

Our summer internship program, Email Genius Academy, is off to a great start, and our interns are busy learning the nuances of their new roles. To provide insight into their experiences, we will spotlight an intern in a blog post each week!

This week’s spotlight features Caleb Hsu! She is a Software Engineer Intern on the Email Fraud Protection team in Broomfield, CO.

Tell us a little about yourself!

I was born in Taiwan but grew up in Littleton, CO, and I am a rising senior at the University of Colorado Boulder. I am pursuing a BS in Computer Science with an emphasis on Human-Centered Computing and spend my free time finding ways to cook cheap, tasty food. Recently, I pulled out my sewing machine and failed miserably at making pajama pants, so I’m working on that… caleb

What made you want to intern at Return Path?

I ran into Return Path representatives at a career fair on campus, and the people I met stood out from other companies by the enthusiastic way they engaged with students. They weren’t rushing to get through the long lines of internship-hunters and really took the time to explain their work and answer my questions. I think this says a lot about the way Return Path values people first, and after researching more on company goals and values, I was convinced!

What are your main projects at Return Path?

My team is currently working on an application that presents detailed data and analyses on email phishing threats, which allows affected customers to better understand attacks in their domain and take the appropriate action. Since I’m on the front-end side of things, I’ve had a lot of opportunities to work on the user interface as I familiarize myself with the codebase.

What do you enjoy the most about being an intern at Return Path?

The atmosphere at Return Path is really fantastic, and I’ve appreciated learning from and working with hardworking people who willingly take the time to explain what they do. Everyone I’ve interacted with so far somehow manages to be very focused and very relaxed at the same time, which keeps things productive and cheerful. On another note, an abundance of free food is definitely great for the perpetually hungry college student that I am.

When you’re not working, what can you be found doing in Colorado?

A good hike is never far away when you live in walking distance of the Flatirons! Other than that, I am very involved in a student ministry on campus called Christian Challenge and also enjoy getting to know international students at CU events like the International Coffee Hour.

What is your spirit animal?

I want to say that my spirit animal is a mountain goat, but the truth is that I’m not as fond of heights nor of climbing 14ers as they are. I like to think that I enjoy both though, so we’ll go with a mountain goat.
