Forecast data to get the answers you need without leaving Salesforce

I’m betting that at some point you have used Salesforce Reports to try to get answers from your data. Maybe that report answered some of your questions, but not all of them. After that, you brought everything into Excel and used a pivot table. Perhaps that did it, but now you’re stuck working with data outside of Salesforce.

Once you’ve got the answers you need and you know what changes you want to make, you’re faced with another problem: Salesforce Reports and Excel Pivot Tables don’t allow you to directly edit your data.

In Salesforce Reports, you have to drill into each record to make any changes.

In Excel Pivot Tables, you have to edit data in the source sheet rather than in the pivot table itself. Not to mention the inconvenience of having to import all your updates back into Salesforce when you’re done.

Neither of these is ideal, since both require multiple clicks and page loads before you can complete your task. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could answer all your questions and edit your data in one place? (Ideally, without having to work outside of Salesforce?) GridBuddy’s Editable Forecast View gives you this capability.

GridBuddy’s Editable Forecast View (EFV)

GridBuddy has a filter called the Editable Forecast View. It allows you to transpose your data like a pivot table, get a birds-eye view using row groupings, all while being able to edit your records without leaving Salesforce.

Using the Editable Forecast View is pretty simple: You create and apply it to a grid just as you would any other admin or user-defined filter. Each record will appear stacked vertically in an editable kanban-esque interface.

The Opportunity grid shown above has the Editable Forecast View filter applied. Rows are grouped by Stage and columns are grouped by Close Date, giving you a clear view of my upcoming pipeline. The fields within each ‘box’ (i.e. each record) are editable per your own grid and object permissions. (Here is our Editable Forecast View YouTube training video.)

Below is the same Opportunity grid, displayed in the hierarchical view. You can easily navigate between these two views using the filter dropdown menu at the top-right of your grid.

In case you’re wondering about data cards: Your data cards are still available in this view. They’re called the ‘detail panel’, and they expand to the right of the grid rather than below each record, giving you access to however many additional fields you may need.

Here’s another example of the Editable Forecast View applied to a Line Item Schedules grid. Columns are grouped by Schedule Date and rows are grouped by Line Item Description. This view really makes white space stand out. The red boxes show a conditional formatting rule that highlights past-due records.
