Partner Alliance Manager
What’s your role here at Return Path?
I manage one of our global email service provider (esp) partners. They rely on Return Path as part of their larger holistic solution for email marketers. By adding our data they have a deeper understanding of their clients’ program performance. If I were to describe in a simplified manner our reseller partnerships I’d related it to a store that sells multiple brands and we’re one of the brands. We sell or refer business through the partner to get our product to more people and maximize economies of scale.
What initially brought you here?
I saw Return Path’s ratings as a top place to work many times in both local publications and on social media. I had also prospected Return Path as a client in my former position in technology. I truly respected the people that worked here and persistently inquired on positions until one was available that would use my expertise in partnership/alliance management & development.
Tell me something I don’t know about working with our partners.
Managing our partner relationships requires expertise in every area of our business; sales, services, product development, marketing, legal, finance, training or enablement as well as executive messaging. The success of our partnerships are also directly impacted by engagements with every team inside Return Path. I liken a partner relationship to a good marriage; there is a long history, a great need for flexibility, and constant surprises. It’s the reason I love this role!
What energizes you about your role at Return Path?
I’m most excited when I see a team within Return Path accomplish a critical goal together. I also get energized when our partners affirm that all the hard work, forethought, and emphasis on their success (along with our own) is too valuable to engage with a competitor at any meaningful level. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to coordinate so many teams and initiatives at the same time.
What problem is the most fun to solve?
The best problem to solve is the one where everyone is convinced there’s no possible solution. When you exploit the experience of Return Path and partner teams along with a little creativity to combat competitive, solution or even perception challenges.
What about you might come as a surprise to those that work closely with you?
I really enjoy doing extreme sports like endurance and obstacle racing (see Tough Mudder, Spartan, Rugged Maniac, Warrior Dash). I also enjoy the casual bike ride, camping, and scuba diving which took me to Mexico to dive with great white sharks in October 2016 (ok that’s a little extreme). Supporting different non-profit organizations is a huge passion as well for myself and our family. One other big dream is to take time to travel Asia and write a book.
What’s the most memorable email campaign you’ve seen lately?
One that has caught my attention is Together We Rise. They’re a non-profit organization that supports kids entering foster care system. Their stories of hope is just so inspiring to me.
What emails can we find in your personal inbox?
You’ll find emails from the YMCA, Tough Mudder, soccer, sports, clothing, LinkedIn, Facebook alerts (because I NEVER visit my account!), and message from my kids’ school.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Return Path?
I love supporting the professional growth of others and having others support mine as well.
