Walk me through your typical day at Return Path.
This summer internship at Return Path has been all about Docker, which is a piece of software that allows developers to more easily develop and deploy applications to a myriad of systems all around the world.
Besides working with and learning about Docker, the other main project I am working on this summer is a system that will automatically move programs around to more efficiently utilize computational resources. Once was are able to implemented the new system, Return Path will start to see a lot of cost-saving benefits. Right now, our servers are unevenly utilized and the tool would make them a lot more efficient. The project itself is a really interesting challenge that has not yet been clearly solved and I am looking forward to tackling it.
What is your favorite aspect about being an intern at Return Path?
My favorite aspect about being an intern at Return Path is the opportunity to do work that matters. At a lot of other companies, interns are often just given tasks that no one else feels like doing. At Return Path, I am given tasks that will actually make a difference in the company. I feel much more valued than the typical intern, and it seems like that extends across the whole company.
What type of advice would you give to future interns looking to work at Return Path?
Always ask your team questions if you get stuck. The people I work with are all very helpful and eager to share their knowledge with me. I have yet to run into a problem that someone on my team could not help me with. Everyone knows the ins and outs of the organization pretty well, too, which is very helpful when faced with navigating a large business
What is one item on your bucket list?
I’ve always wanted to travel to Scandinavia. It seems like a really interesting place, and I like the culture there.
